Thomas Wise

Thomas Wise is a life-long resident of Pennsylvania, and grew up in the Susquehanna Valley.  He now resides north of Harrisburg in Small Valley.  He is a member of local, regional, and national art organizations.  Thomas is the recipient of numerous awards, and his art has been selected for inclusion into exhibitions that are local, regional, national, and international.  His art is in collections throughout the country, and his designs have been licensed by national and international companies for use in a variety of products.

Thomas studied art at the University of Delaware, where he was the recipient of a Master of Fine Arts degree.  He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Philadelphia College of Art, now known as The University of the Arts in Philadelphia.  He is also graduated from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and York Academy of Arts.

                                                                                    Artist Statement

The philosophy about art for Thomas Wise is that the essence of life and art is found in simple everyday things and experiences.  His painting subjects are, therefore, drawn from familiar scenes and landscapes, fruit from his orchard, flowers cultivated in his gardens, and the people who are a part of his life.  “What I paint of the external world is a reflection of what I have identified as important and expressive within myself.  I paint not to merely capture the illusion of an object, but more importantly, I use the beauty found in the object to express symbolic truths.”  This personal vision, combined with unique content, dramatic light, rich luminous color, and an expressive painterly surface, makes his art entirely his own.
